Control, MCC, and Data Center Rooms Gas and Particulate Air Filtration

Control, motor control, and data centers will be far better places for electrical equipment to operate if the air is clean and conditioned. Depending on the nature of the material, there will often also be occupational health implications.

Advanced Climate & Air Quality Solutions

Our approach is to provide any combination of

  • A review of the air conditioning system and controls. if the climate control is outside the room, these can often be the single greatest source of contamination through leaky ducts, poorly fitted commercial-style panels, and the use of economizers. Work often starts here.
  • Controls for climate control systems as positions of sensing devices are important.
  • Pressurization of the space to control the quality of air being introduced. This can be particulate, gaseous, and in severe applications, include reverse air pulse cleaning of intake cartridges to reduce maintenance and maintain performance.
  • Automatic controls to vary the fan speed to maintain a set room pressure regardless of filter loading. VFD’s also have communication potential back to central control rooms.
  • Re-circulation filtration to greatly reduce contaminant levels and reduce pull-down times. In practice, rooms have doors and personnel enter and leave, and this introduces contamination, which is best removed by re-circulation filtration.
  • Monitoring on particulates down to 0.01 mg/m³ and 20 μm.
  • Monitoring to provide real-time compliance to the instrument society of america standards for controlled environments—this includes corrosion, temperature, and humidity.
  • Supply of gas phase media and particulate filters to best suit the contaminants to be managed.
  • Modeling of the room to predict the cleanliness based on the amount of recirculation and outside air pressurization and filtration efficiencies.

Clean Air Through Recirculation

A huge benefit that we are seeing with the modeling is that clean air can be achieved with more recirculation rather than just pressurization. It can be compared with swimming pool filtration—clean water is achieved by filtering what is in there, not by dilution and water addition.

This also results in lower energy costs by having to treat less outside air, plus greater stability of humidity inside the room and much lower media consumption in gas phase filtration situations.
